Battery life on mobile phones is an integral aspect of everyday use for most users, mainly since many of us utilize our phones for streaming video and social media activities that require significant power consumption.
There are plenty of fantastic options for those seeking long-term phone durability, and we have assembled our top picks below.
iPhone X
Apple claims that its iPhone X can last an entire day on one charge, and in reality, this holds. However, when it comes to internet and video playback performance, the 8 Plus surpasses it by an estimated 21 and 60 hours, respectively.
However, the iPhone X remains one of the top smartphones for battery life in 2024 if you opt for wireless charging rather than wired charging to maximize its performance; charging speeds have become much quicker over time.
Apple’s OLED-screen smartphone helps conserve power even further; these tend to consume less than LCDs. Furthermore, this year’s iPhone XS and XS Max use A13 Bionic chips explicitly designed to deliver more power while maintaining battery efficiency.
PCMark tested the new iPhones extensively and found they lasted 24 hours and 52 minutes in endurance mode – an outstanding result that beat every other phone we tested. While it doesn’t feature fast charging capabilities like some competitors do, it still can charge from zero to 50% in 30 minutes with its USB-C cable and block included with purchase. Though not cheap, this phone definitely deserves consideration as one that will last throughout your day of activity.
Samsung Galaxy S23
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 phones represent an innovative step for the company. Boasting larger battery capacities, improved efficiency, and fast wireless charging support, these Android flagships can comfortably last two days of regular usage with regular usage patterns.
Both Galaxy S23 models, the standard and variants, performed exceptionally in our endurance test, which measures web browsing at 150nits of screen brightness over 5G and video playback at 60Hz – four to five hours more than many of their Android rivals, including the OnePlus 11 and Pixel 7 phones.
In real-world usage, Samsung flagships feel fast and responsive; they do not lag or stutter as much when running demanding apps or games as some other flagship phones do.
Samsung unwisely decreased battery sizes on its Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus phones in 2022, leading to noticeable performance problems for these models. To address this, they developed the Galaxy S23 Series as an answer: offering higher capacities in similar packages – such as 3,900mAh on both models for vanilla S23 while 4,700mAh for Galaxy S23 Plus models; both phones scored well in endurance tests though still trailed behind iPhone XS/XS Max due to higher capacities but should provide plenty of power for most users; Samsung even offers fast charging capabilities, charging their devices in three hours or less!
Moto G Stylus
Moto G Stylus and Moto G Power phones offer incredible battery life at an exceptional value for their price point. Both phones lasted 16 hours and 35 minutes in our automated web-surfing test over Wi-Fi with 200nits screen brightness, an outstanding performance. Furthermore, both phones also held up well in our custom 3D gaming test.
These phones also boast Qualcomm’s new six-nanometer Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, featuring two 2.2GHz Kryo 660 Gold P-cores and six 1.7GHz Kryo 660 Silver E-cores running at 1.7GHz each, as well as an Adreno 619 GPU – which marks an improvement over last year’s Moto G, which had only the slower Snapdragon 480 chip. Both models support 5G data speeds to ensure the device remains responsive during your browsing and app use over mobile connections.
Motorola phones feature fluid and intuitive software that won’t bog you down. Motorola hasn’t modified Android too drastically and doesn’t tack on extraneous apps or bloatware to these phones – plus, these models get regular Android 12 updates compared to Google’s more current OS version.
Moto G Stylus and its siblings cannot compare with the Asus ROG Phone 7, with its incredible 6,000mAh battery that allows it to handle graphic-intensive games on high graphics settings. Still, for most people, these budget phones should provide at least several days of uptime before needing to be recharged.
Moto G 5G (2024)
Interested in buying a phone without breaking the bank? Consider investing in the Moto G 5G as it offers outstanding value at a very reasonable price while still offering enough storage capacity, a 6.5-inch 90Hz display, 4G capabilities, headphone jack support and an excellent battery life.
To assess a phone’s battery, we conduct a series of tests designed to give an estimate of its expected lifecycle with typical usage patterns such as web browsing, video playback and 3D gaming. Additionally, a particular power-efficient test measures how much of each charge a phone can accomplish on its own – providing us with a more accurate representation of what to expect from each device.
The Moto G 5G’s 5,000mAh battery performed admirably across our tests, lasting 13 hours and 20 minutes during web browsing – outlasting most phones in our top 10. In terms of HD YouTube playback, however, 12 hours and 9 minutes was its total viewing time – which wasn’t the longest we had seen, but it was still considered an excellent performance.
Moto G 5G stands out as an attractive budget phone with fast charging support that provides up to one full day’s usage with just 15 minutes on the charger – this can make a substantial difference when searching for budget phones with decent battery lives.
OnePlus 10 Pro
If battery life is your top priority when selecting an Android phone, look no further than the OnePlus 10 Pro. OnePlus has recently updated their battery from 4500 mAh to 5000 mAh this year – something which proved beneficial during our battery tests – lasting for 21hrs and 39 minutes of looped video testing, providing enough life for most users throughout a full day of usage while outlasting competitive models like Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max while managing productivity apps, playing heavy games and editing photos using Adobe Lightroom.
The OnePlus 10 Pro offers impressive endurance as well as premium features like 50W wireless charging and an alert slider, including a 120Hz refresh rate display for seamless apps and Android navigation, 50W wireless charging support and Hasselblad’s DSLR-like camera software for improved user experiences.
The OnePlus 10 Pro provides outstanding all-around performance, though it may struggle in certain areas (e.g. switching apps quickly or running heavy applications like Photoshop or games). However, its 80W SuperVOOC fast charging allows users to recharge its 5,000 mAh battery from empty to full in under 30 minutes – providing more convenience than competing devices in this regard.
Samsung Galaxy A34
Samsung made strides this year in its mid-range offerings, especially when it came to battery life. Their Galaxy A34 model boasts a massive 5,000mAh battery that’s able to power it for significantly longer than last year’s model, including browsing the web for up to 17 hours and playing pre-downloaded movies for up to 20. Furthermore, this phone boasts an HD 6.6″ display capable of reaching 1,000nits brightness that Corning Gorilla Glass protects. At the same time, its MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset consumes minimal power use, which means daily usage can easily fit within daily.
Thus, the Samsung Galaxy A34 stands out as one of the longest-lasting smartphones in its price range. You could go up to two days before running out of juice despite intensive use, thanks to its large battery and energy-efficient chipset.
This model qualifies for four years of OS updates and five years of security patches from Samsung – more than other manufacturers offer! However, its one shortcoming is that it doesn’t support fast wired charging like the OnePlus 10, meaning that charging from dead may take approximately 1.5 hours. Still, it is a worthwhile choice if you are looking for savings when purchasing a new smartphone!
